THE THIRTEENTH DAY OF THE TWELFTH MONTH

Shalom, to you my Friend and Co-Minister in the Great Commission...

In last month's Sapphires I wrote of the president's signing of The "Respect for Marriage Act" on the White House lawn - and that it represented the enshrinement of same sex marriage into Federal Law. I opened up a biblical mystery that lay behind it. This month, I open another mystery and another revelation lying behind the president's act.

The "Respect for Marriage Act" only passed because 12 Republican senators decided to go along with all of the Democratic senators in voting for the act. In order to gain those Republican votes, a clause was added to the act. It spoke of religious freedom. Religious leaders warned that the clause was vague and weak and that the law would pose a danger to religion and religious freedom. But those pushing the bill forward gave assurances that no church or minister would be forced to perform same sex marriages or be punished for not recognizing them.

However, there was a mystery to the president's act that went back thousands of years to an ancient king. The king also signed a law in the capital city that went forth to the land. The law was intended to bring religious persecution and calamity for the people of God. The going forth of the law is recorded in the Book of Esther:

"...it was written, and sealed with the king's signet ring. And the letters were sent by couriers into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate all the Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month..."

So, the law was set to go into effect on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month. If that were translated into an American context, it would correspond to a president, signing a law, to bring persecution to God's people on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month. On the western calendar, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, is the thirteenth day of December. The president signed the law on the White House lawn on December 13, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month - the day of the decree that is to bring persecution and calamity to God's people.

Has God given warning to His people? The truth is, every move that a culture makes to treat sin as good, will be matched by another treating good as evil - in other words, persecution. Be warned. Be ready. Be prepared to stand for God no matter what it means. Set this month to shine as a light in the night that lights up every darkness. And may God greatly bless you as you do!
