Married to an Ox

Saturday, May 15, 2021

It is written in Proverbs that when the ox is in the stall, there's a mess, but much increase comes by the strength of the ox. You say, "I don't have an ox, nor do I have a stall." So, what does it have to do with me?' Everything. The principle is: what has life and is alive, will produce a mess. But much good will come of it. Let's apply it to 'marriage,' and translate the ox-in-the-stall principle this way: 'Where there's marriage, the house will be messy, but much increase comes from marriage.' Marriage is a living thing - messy but alive. So if you want a living marriage you have to deal with messes. Real marriage brings out things: two living, breathing, snoring, clothes-dropping people together in one stall. Want an easy, no-mess, no-problems-to-deal-with marriage? Fine, just don't involve another person. You want the blessings of marriage? Then you'll have to accept the messes. But it's worth it. For with a living marriage, comes much blessing. So joyfully embrace your ox, and the mess he or she makes. For when the ox is in the stall, there is much increase.
